Matthew Murray says he was miraculously healed after being given just three hours to live. Now his story is heading into print.
When Matthew Murray contracted the most aggressive form of malaria and saw all of his major organs go into failure, he and his family feared the worst.
With half of his bloodstream filled with the deadly parasite and his body rejecting medication, his wife Becky was told by doctors to prepare for the worst and that her husband could be dead within three hours.
It was after receiving that news that Becky turned to social media, and the Murrays believe a viral prayer campaign saved Matthew’s life as Christians across the world pleaded with God to save him.
“I believe I’d be dead if it wasn’t for God’s people,” says Matthew, who is now 30.
“When I regained consciousness I had more than 2,000 messages on my phone from Christians from all over the world. It seemed as if everyone was praying. It didn’t shock me that my friends and family were praying, but I didn’t expect complete strangers in obscure nations to be praying too.
“Some churches held special prayer meetings, others met in small groups. It was the Church at her best – uniting and campaigning for a complete stranger. How beautiful that I recovered and now people have been able to see the answer to their prayers.”
