Giants escape Bear trap

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ — A team from the Windy City visited MetLife Stadium on Sunday afternoon, but there were winds aplenty during the hometown New York Giants tilt with the Chicago Bears, with gusts between 17- 21 MPH.

Fortunately for the New York faithful in attendance, yet another Giants victory wasn’t blown away in the process.

The Giants scored 16 unanswered points after falling behind 16-6 to the reeling Bears, eventually triumphing in a 22-16 victory, their fifth in a row.

“(It was a) tale of the two halves today,” victorious head coach Ben McAdoo said afterward. “I’m proud of the way the guys responded at halftime. (We outscored Chicago) 13-0 in the second half, came out with the fire burning. We still have a lot of work to do. We realize that, and we look forward to doing it.”

In the first part of a two-week trap game slate, the Giants (7-3) ran into trouble in the early going. After a questionable roughing the passer call against Olivier Vernon, Chicago took advantage of the extended drive to score on a 19- yard hookup between Jay Cutler and Zach Miller, though a missed extra point by Connor Barth kept it at 6-0.

When the Giants got the ball for their first possession, they picked up right where they left off from their Monday night win over Cincinnati six days earlier ... in terms of gutsiness.

Driving to the Chicago 17, the Giants successfully went for it on fourth and-2, as the previous week’s fourth-down hero, Sterling Shepard, took it to the 2-yard line, where Rashad Jennings put it in on the very next play — though they only managed to tie it, as Robbie Gould’s point after missed as well.
