"OUR BAND HAS BEEN REALLY GOOD AT ADAPTING AND OVERCOMING OBSTACLES" MATT MINGUS
Whether you believe in it or not, luck is a funny thing. Some people have all of it, seemingly sailing effortlessly through life gathering up wins, whilst others find themselves constantly grinding just to stay W afloat.
When you're stuck on a raft frantically paddling to reach the finish line, you can feel envious towards everyone who's managed to strike upon an easier looking path, but more often than not the cliché rings true - nothing worth having comes easy. If you put your head down, ignore the noise, and focus on the journey ahead, the victory will likely feel much sweeter once you reach the shore.
Sometimes, things in life aren't handed to you or gained through fate. You have to earn them, and no brand knows that better than Dance Gavin Dance. Formed in 2005, after the dissolution of Sacramento's Farewell Unknown, they're a band who over 17 years - simply put - have been put through the wringer.
Navigating countless line-up changes, shifts in their scene, and crippling touring tensions whilst being constantly underestimated by the music industry at large; if you can name a barrier, the five-piece have likely faced it. A cult success story like no other, as they prepared for the release of their ninth studio album, 'Afterburner', in 2020, they were ready to reap the rewards of their hard work and perseverance. With a US tour scheduled to begin just six weeks ahead of the album's release, on March 12, 2020, the band arrived at Los Angeles' Hollywood Palladium. Pulling up to the venue ready to kickstart the 'Afterburner' cycle in style alongside their devoted community of fans, a few short hours later they found themselves at the beginning of another story of overcoming.
