ABOUT THAT NEW GOLDFINGER RECORD

“I never actually intended to write a new Goldfinger album. I wrote ‘Am I Deaf?’ five years ago and it was the first song that I knew I couldn’t give to another artist. I knew they were words that I needed to say, based on going to shows and comparing them to the old days. I thought it was going to be a one-off, but then I remember hearing Sia wrote a load of songs that people didn’t want so she said, ‘Fuck it, I’ll write an album!’ That was a big part of my thinking with ‘The Knife’.”

“When I signed Beartooth at Red Bull Records, Caleb said I needed to meet this kid Tyler from Columbus who was an incredible singer. Through Tyler [Joseph] I was able to get in bed with Josh [Dun]. Not literally, of course! But it’s like I’ve known Twenty One Pilots forever. I’ve watched them grow into what they are now. We hang out a lot and I’ve written a bunch of songs with both of them and figured it would be really fun to get Josh in to play some drums on the new record. He’s a super positive, high-energy guy who is also just a really great drummer.”
