Cut-out Figures of Outrageous Molestation

Suddenly the news of the assault on womanhood has spread like wild fire. It is unprecedented. A psychosocial plague called rape. Innocent girl child, minors are victimised, which call for a diagnosis exercise, as to the cause and also to find out remedies. Even step fathers being the head of the households, commit this abdominal act upon their own step daughters. Instead of punishment against these predators, unholy compromises are being made.

Sex hungry males including teenagers stalk the land to prey upon girl child of barely one year old. There is of course an outcry, especially against public leaders implicated in these outrageous acts.

One such a cut-out is Julius Dorphang, member of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly from the Mawhati constituency. Behind him is a history of being a militant leader, but has turned over to join the mainstream of society as a political leader. Yet in a dramatic development, he was accused in the exploitation of a 14 year old girl, besides being implicated to be involved in 3 cases of gang rape on minors.

The 14 year old girl is from Ichamati, who was exploited by several men, both old and young. She had become, a living sex carcass of starved and hungry wolves who are devoid of any pity. She had been living in fear and agony. She was a child of foster guardians claiming to be her mummy and papa. What a predicament. She was handed over to the clutches of Julius Dorphang. She was also taken to guest houses in the city, to serve as a sex slave. All she wants now is that justice should be taken and that culprits involved should be rounded up.

Shillong saw the coming together of people from all walks of life. Persons with disabilities, musicians, poets, students, beauty queens who all came out to the streets and in one chorus voiced against the rising crimes against women and children.

Organisations such as Thma U Rangli—meaning the war path of the down trodden, also the Civil Society Womens’ Organisation (CSWO) joined forces and demanded the state government justice as voiced by the Ichamati girl.
