Four kilometres east of Saharanpur on the Dehradun road lies Sadak Dudhali, a village of 3,000 people, mostly Muslim.
There is also a significant Dalit minority that lives in Sadak Dudhali. There is no history of communal violence here; both Muslims and Dalits worship at the famous nearby shrine to Naugaja Peer, the ‘saint of the highway’ believed to be 27 feet tall. On April 14, Muslims and Dalits in the village celebrated the birthday of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar.
