'Our People Are Not That Anti-India'

He came the closest to drafting an agreement that could have brought peace to India and Pakistan.

He has even thrown his weight behind Track-II dialogues. Now, with the Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreeke-Insaf, he hopes sanity will prevail. Excerpts from an exclusive interview.

What is your forecast, based on the situation?

I hope there is no further escalation. But, I do not know. It would be a very unfortunate if it [did escalate]….

If there is a response, there will be a response from this side. It is a given like night follows day. So, what will India do? Respond to that? As Prime Minister Imran Khan said, neither he nor Prime Minister [Narendra] Modi will be able to control events.
