Rookie keeper seizes chance

BARELY a month ago, Andy Fisher was – in his own words – little more than a training keeper at Blackburn Rovers.

“I was part of the first team,” says the 22-year-old. “But there was no pressure on me to win games or fight for a result. I was making up the numbers, really.”

Now, having ousted the experienced Lee Nicholls from the No.1 spot at MK Dons following a deadline day transfer, Fisher is the first name on Russell Martin’s team sheet.

Last weekend’s man of the match performance in the Dons’ 2-1 victory at Sunderland capped a fine month for a player whose only previous experience was 13 games on loan at FC United in National League North.

Decision

“It was a big decision for me to leave Blackburn,” says Fisher, a Lancashire lad who spent nine years at Ewood Park.

“I was here on loan last season and I’d been speaking to MK all through the window, so I knew they wanted me to come back.
