THE Shrimps of Morecambe have become big-fry in League Two this season – and powerhouse striker Cole Stockton intends to keep it that way.
As is the norm, the low-budget Lancashire club were written off by bookies and pundits alike before the season began, tipped for relegation to the National League.
But Derek Adams’ troops have shown that they if they are to exit the fourth tier, it will only be in one direction – to League One. Heading into the weekend, Morecambe were third in the table and buoyant after an impressive 2-0 win at Exeter in midweek.
Target man Stockton, 26, told The FLP: “It’s got to motivate you when people write you off and we’re surprising a few people.
“If you’d said pre-season that we would be where we are now, I probably would have questioned it, but I’ve not really been taken by surprise. I know the ability of the players we’ve got, but it’s knitting it together and the gaffer has got us well organised.
“We are performing well for the club, the fans and ourselves.”
