The Chorley captain is a keyworker and working six days a week since the Covid-19 outbreak has hit staffing levels at the Lady Elise Finney House in Preston, named after the wife of the late Sir Tom Finney.
His roles include making breakfast, getting residents washed and dressed, and keeping them active mentally and physically while dealing with the extra pressures of the current situation.
“This situation has highlighted what we do, but for care workers this is all part and parcel of the job,” the 34-year-old told The NLP.
“Nothing has changed in the role except the extra precautions we’re having to take and the extra equipment we’re using.”
Teague has used modern technology to bring families closer together and provide video calls to give residents a link to the outside world. “Some of the residents don’t understand why their families can’t come to visit,” he went on.
“We have iPads at home, so we can use FaceTime to let the residents speak to their families. It’s no extra work for me but it gives them a chance to see each other, it gets a good reaction from both sides. Some of these people normally visit every day, and seeing a dad and his son able to connect gives me a lot of satisfaction.”
