Boris Tells EU: Get Serious About Trade Talks Or We'll Quit

Trade talks with the EU must make progress or Britain will walk away, Boris Johnson will tell top Eurocrats today.

In a video conference with the bloc’s most senior officials, the Prime Minister will demand greater urgency during talks over the next few weeks.

Later this month negotiators will, if it is safe, hold face-to-face talks in London and Brussels for the first time since the coronavirus outbreak.

Discussions have faced limitations using the video link format.

The five-week round of formal and informal talks around a trade agreement will finish at the end of July.

Mr Johnson will today tell Ursula von der Leyen, the European Commission president, Charles Michel, Council president, and Parliament president David Sassoli a deal must be struck by autumn at the “very latest”.
