Crackdown On BBC Wage Rises After Davie Gets £75k Pay Boost

Campaigners said it was an “absolute scandal” that the corporation is further lining the pockets of director-general Tim Davie, when over-75s have been stripped of their free TV licence.

A Government source warned of a crackdown and top salaries would “come under the microscope in any future BBC deal”.

Mr Davie, who is enjoying a 16.6 per cent pay boost after a year in the role, backed axing the benefit for over-75s when he took over from Tony Hall.

Around 260,000 older viewers have not paid the £159 annual fee and now face so-called customer care visits from TV Licensing officials.
