THE Government is in a bitter battle with scientists over whether the UK should bring in new Covid restrictions.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak echoed Boris Johnson’s vow there must not be a return to “significant economic restrictions” because of the virus.

But Professor Peter Openshaw said he is “very fearful” there will be another lockdown by Christmas.

Mr Sunak said: “I think we’re in a very different place to where we were a year ago because of the vaccine.
