Gennova's Omicron-specific mRNA booster vaccine, GemCOVAC-OM, will be available in two to three weeks. The pricing and rollout plans will be announced at the formal launch in New Delhi.
The company already has a stockpile of 12 lakh vaccines at the Central Drugs Laboratory, Kasauli. After Moderna's and Pfizer's vaccine, GemCOVAC-OM is the third booster mRNA vaccine approved against the highly transmissible Omicron variant.
Sanjay Singh, CEO, Gennova, said while the pandemic had ended, the Covid-19 virus had not gone yet and it was continuously mutating. So, there was a need to be prepared with vaccines to deal with emerging variants, which could pose serious public health concerns.
