Despite showing their IDs to the police, several health workers, including doctors and nurses, were stopped at the Delhi-Noida border on Thursday. They were told to get a border pass issued to the hospitals in order to cross the border.
The Gautam Buddh Nagar district administration on Tuesday had announced its decision to seal the Delhi-Noida border as a precautionary measure to contain the spread of Covid-19. The decision was taken after the total number of positive coronavirus cases in Noida rose to 102 on Tuesday.
A senior nursing superintendent with AIIMS was not allowed to cross the Delhi-Noida border on Thursday afternoon while she was returning home in Noida. Even after trying to convince the Noida police personnel at the border for 15 minutes, she was allowed to drive back home.
Few minutes later, when more than 20 such health workers were stopped at the border, they called the Chief Medical Officer who then allowed them to pass. “The officer asked us to carry authorisation letter from the hospital to continue crossing the border,” she said, requesting anonymity.
