Anas Sarwar yesterday made history when he became the new leader of Scottish Labour.
The former dentist is the first candidate from an ethnic minority to take control of a UK political party.
The Glasgow MSP defeated Monica Lennon, winning 57.6 per cent of the vote.
Sarwar, 37, will now lead Scottish Labour into May’s Holyrood elections. The dad of three described the victory as “the greatest honour of my life”.
Here placed Richard Leonard, who resigned last month.
Sarwar added: “I want to say directly to the people of Scotland, I know Labour has a lot of work to do to win back your trust. Because if we’re brutally honest, you haven’t had the Scottish Labour Party you deserve.
“ With rising injustice, inequality and division, I’m sorry we haven’t been good enough.
