School Drops From Outstanding To Inadequate

School strives to respond to ‘inadequate’ Ofsted verdict

A PLYMOUTH school which had not been inspected by Ofsted for 15 years has been rated ‘inadequate’ after the watchdog’s latest visit.

Hyde Park Infant School was last inspected by the Government body in 2007, when it was given an ‘outstanding’ rating.

It had been exempt from inspection for such a long time due to Section Five of the Education Act 2005, but the school joined the Horizon Multi-Academy Trust in January, 2019, and was paid a visit by Ofsted inspectors in November, 2020.

It was subsequently given a rating of ‘inadequate’ in overall effectiveness. It was also rated ‘inadequate’ for the quality of education and early years provision. It was given a ‘requires improvement’ rating for behaviour and attitudes, personal development and leadership and management.

The school’s new executive head teacher Denise Razey, who was recruited in May, said the school is striving to “implement a wide range of changes quickly and carefully”.
