It was a typical English summer's day -- dark skies, dank and dismal weather. Until the roof was rolled out on the show courts, covers held sway at Wimbledon on the first morning of The Championships 2021.

After some 700 days of no play, it was up to the American, the effusive Frances Tiafoe to jump-start the grasscourt major. The 23-year-old didn’t disappoint, knocking out the third-seeded Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 in a shade over two hours for the biggest win of his career.

Tiafoe, who saved all seven break points he faced in the match, converted four of the eight opportunities he had on the third seed’s serve. Cheered on by the crowd, he rode on early breaks in the first and third sets and did well not to surrender the lead when the Greek came at him.

“It was definitely one of my best matches from start to finish. I live for these kinds of moments. If you saw me on the side courts, you might have seen a different performance today,” said the world No.54, whose best performance at Wimbledon came in 2018 when he made the third round.
