ARE COVID-19 VACCINES EFFECTIVE AGAINST NEW MUTATIONS?
It has been over a couple of months since COVID-19 vaccination drives begun across the world.
Sadly, that's also the time a lot of the new virulent COVID-19 strains, thought to have originated from the UK, South Africa, Brazil came into being.
The newer COVID variants are said to present different symptoms and launch an attack in a different way. They are said to be more infectious and transmissible than the original strain.
Newer pieces of researches have also pointed out yet another startling piece of evidence- the virus strains may dim down the efficacy of the vaccines.
In the timeline when many are already doubting the safety and workability of the COVID-19 vaccines being ambitiously used right now, will the vaccines be effective enough to fight out the new virus strains? Will it be safe for use in the future?
WHAT DO WE KNOW ABOUT THE NEW COVID VARIANTS RIGHT NOW?
Right now, the spread of the three new COVID mutations has sparked worries globally. The first cases emerged from the UK and now, a surge in cases is also being witnessed in New York. Closer home, cases have been traced in Maharashtra and Kerala more recently.
The new mutations, particularly the Kent variation is said to be at least 50 times more contagious, is leading to a rise in cases reported amongst the young and healthy. Some have also flagged concerns that the variant may also launch a severe attack, which may need hospitalization.
