Hyderabad: The Telangana high court on Tuesday told authorities not to allow immersion of Ganesh idols made of Plaster of Paris in water bodies in Hyderabad. The judges asked officials of the Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB), Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), and the police if they would apply the law against violators this Ganesh festival.
“It is time you apply the ‘polluter pays’ principle here also,” a bench of acting Chief Justice M S Ramachandra Rao and Justice T Vinod Kumar said. “No point in confining this principle only to industries.” The court asked the state to be more active in view of the extreme heat conditions being faced by even European countries these days due to degradation of the environment.
