This is an instance of a cyber fraudster trying out a new trick to dupe, said the police.
The new cellphone was used to steal confidential banking details of the film distributor, Manmohan Kapur (53), of Kapur Films, to carry out eight fraudulent fund transfers from two of his bank accounts for Rs 2.9 lakh on Tuesday. The caller even tried to transfer another Rs 4 lakh from his account, but by then Kapur had realised his mistake and got his bank to reverse the transaction, just in time.
Kapur on Thursday confirmed TOI that he had fallen prey to an online banking card fraud.
