Industrialist Donates ₹4L To ‘Selfless' Couple

Mumbai: Moved by the “sacrifice and selfless act” of a couple from Malwani in Malad who had withdrawn Rs 4 lakh from their Provident Fund to feed 1,500 people during the lockdown, industrialist Anand Mahindra donated the “savings” to them. He made the contribution after TOI reported about Faiyaz and Mizga Shaikh having exhausted the money that they had saved to buy a house to provide ration to lockdown-affected people.

Many donors, including a partner with KPMG, a vice-president with a telecom company, and a team leader with an IT consultancy, contributed an additional Rs 1.5 lakh.

“We cannot thank all our benefactors enough for supporting our cause,” said Faiyaz. The demand for ration has escalated after the July 24 TOI report and he has been getting calls from all over Mumbai. “I don’t want to refuse anyone and the first thing I did after receiving funds was to buy more ration kits,” he added.
