An IAS officer of the 1989 batch, Chahal was the principal secretary of the urban development department before taking over as BMC chief from Praveen Pardeshi in May 2020.
Asked what the course of operation will be in the coming days, Chahal said they are working on it. “It will take 4-5 days to set things up,” he said. The last time the BMC had an administrator was in the 1980s.
