Mumbai: For one, more than 50% of the essential medicines mentioned in the National List of Essential Medicines are not available here. For another, several doctors practising around these stores are wary of prescribing generic drugs, citing “quality” as an issue.
These are the findings of a study which was conducted by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS, Mumbai) after looking at 11 Jan Aushadhi outlets in urban Mumbai and rural Palghar, published in the latest edition of ‘BMC Health Services Research’, a reputed public health journal.
