Bump in the sun? Here’s what you need to watch out for once the mercury starts to soar...
Keep it cool, mama!

Being pregnant can be a trial at the best of times. But if it is in the hot and humid summer months, it can take the difficulties to another level. The summer season literally makes you a hot mama. Your own body heat plus that of the baby can turn you into a walking furnace! Here are some pointers which can make your summer months pass like a breeze.

UNDER YOUR SKIN

♦ Exposure to too much sunlight can cause brownish coloured patches on your face and chest. Dermatologist Dr Rashmi Sarkar explains, “The melanin in your body acts up during pregnancy due to the hormonal changes, causing the condition called Chloasma. Usually, the patches disappear after the pregnancy. If not, consult a dermatologist.”

♦ It is advisable to avoid the peak temperatures of the mid-day heat. If possible, step out in the relatively cooler mornings and late evenings. Carry an umbrella to protect yourself from direct sunlight.

♦ Slather a sunscreen of SPF of at least 50 (15 or 30 is really no good) to avoid these brown patches. Put them on even if it’s cloudy or you intend to stay inside. Protect yourself from direct sunlight.

♦ Invest in a good pair of sunglasses. Not only will they protect your eyes from the harsh glare of the sun, but also shoot your fab quotient up a few notches.
