What motivated you to become a photographer and why the focus on macro?

I’m not sure how I got started in photography — but I do know that macro is a technical challenge and that I find insect behavior fascinating.

Is it enough to have the right equipment in order to be a good macro photographer or are there other areas of knowledge that are critical?

Good question. It helps to learn about insect/amphibian behavior. For example, it’s much harder to find frogs during the dry season — wait for the rainy season when they are laying eggs. Many insects (eg: mayflies, many beetles) spend long periods in their larval form and emerge as adults for only a few days to mate before dying. Knowing when they emerge is important. Many insects hide during the day so you need to look for them at night.
