Alternative ways to sell your images online

It's rewarding, both emotionally and financially, to get your work out there into the marketplace. Whether it's selling images, framed prints, calendars, or greeting cards, there are a myriad of ways you could be making money from your shots.

We spoke to a range of pros for their advice when it comes to selling images online. Whether you want to go down the route of selling prints on Etsy, advertising products on your own website, NFTs, or look at stock photos as an option, we have covered these areas.

Let's get stock in

Beata Moore (www.beatamoore.co.uk, follow on Instagram @moorebeata) is a photographer and writer living in Kingston-upon-Thames. "I sell my images through National Trust Images and Alamy Stock Imagery," she says. "The stock photography industry has drastically changed in the last ten years or so. With the introduction of digital technology, the market has transformed, so it is not possible to have a comfortable income from a couple of hundred of images." Despite this, Beata still finds selling stock gives her a steady and reliable source of income. "Perhaps because I am a generalist photographer, I deliver a variety of images in large quantities."

When it comes to looking for the best subject matter to shoot, Beata finds that the most requested photos are ones with people. "Especially when they are shot in natural settings, and when they represent a clear concept or positive message," she advises. "Some of my most successful images are popular subjects, shot differently, for example from an unusual point of view. I sell seasonal images as well - flowers, woods, or parks.
