Joby Wavo POD: Affordable and Versatile
Joby Wavo POD

PROS

Crisp, clear sound for recording voices. Cardioid and omnidirectional modes. Headphone jack. Multiple screw mounts.

CONS

Doesn’t capture much bass and can be sibilant without the included pop filter. Combination volume/ gain knob is slightly awkward.

BOTTOM LINE

The $100 Joby Wavo POD offers impressively clean audio and several welcome features not often found on USB microphones at this price.

The GorillaPod adjustable tripod put Joby on the map in the world of content creation, and now the company is reaching beyond phone and camera mounts with its Wavo line of microphones. Most of the models in this line are situational and geared toward professionals, including the Wavo PRO shotgun mic and the Wavo Lav PRO lavalier mic, but that doesn’t mean desktop podcasters and streamers have been forgotten. The Wavo POD is a desktop USB microphone that offers loads of features for the price, including cardioid and omnidirectional recording patterns, onboard gain adjustment, a lag-free headphone jack, multiple screw mounts, and a pop filter. It also sounds extremely clean, making it ideal for any task that requires voice capture. The Wavo POD’s strong value earns it our Editors’ Choice award for USB mics, sitting comfortably between the ultra-affordable and simple Blue Snowball Ice ($49.99) and higher-end advanced models such as the Apogee HypeMiC ($349).

BLACK MIC, RED POP FILTER, LOTS OF MOUNTING OPTIONS
