In 2004 Esther completed a Bachelor in communicative design and scientific illustration at the Art Academy Minerva in the Netherlands. Since then she has been working as a professional wildlife and paleo artist. She moved to Norway in 2006. The beautiful nature and wildlife here have been a great subject for a lot of her art works.
Esther started creating paleo art in ernest in 2009, when she met professor Jørn Hurum. Together they have created many (award winning) books, among others Ida, Monster Reptiles on Svalbard and Deadly Encyclopedia Since then there have been many exciting and interesting commissions from museums, magazines (National Geographic, Nature Magazine, Popular Science Magazine) and fossil companies.
It is always exciting to recreate an extinct animal, and the level of challenge is different in every species. Some fossils have been preserved very well, but others are just a tiny part of what the animal used to be. There is much guessing, and so a good level of artistic freedom.
