Symon Lewis gets his head around WaveCel, Trek’s in-house safety-boosting technology

Trek and sister brand Bontrager sent out a lot of cryptic viral chatter on social media last week, leaving most of us wondering what on earth they would be launching

Last Tuesday they unveiled a helmet that includes new technology called WaveCel, which Trek says is 48 times more effective than standard EPS foam at preventing brain injury and also outperforms MIPS in more advanced impact tests that the brand’s researchers developed. A big claim, but at the moment with the industry keeping a keen eye on racing cyclists’ health post-crashes, a welcome one.

Trek says 99 times out of 100, WaveCel prevents concussions from common cycling accidents.
