The Italian frames that inspired the resurgence of steel
Everybody knows that Miguel Indurain was the last man to win the Tour de France on a steel bike – less well known is that under the Pinarello paint it was a Pegoretti.
Technically one of the most skilled contractors in the Veneto region, Dario Pegoretti was said to have also built frames for Tour winners Marco Pantani and Stephen Roche as well as many of the other top riders of the Nineties, though he was dismissive of this: “I used to receive a piece of paper with the sizes and that was it.”
