Sky youngster is cycling’s hottest prospect following Romandie performance

With Chris Froome edging towards his mid-30s it’s no surprise that Team Sky has spent the last two seasons signing a raft of talented youngsters. What is a surprise is that, certainly in one case, it seems to be paying off so quickly.

Twenty-one-year-old Colombian prodigy Egan Arley Bernal bagged second place at last week’s Tour de Romandie behind Primoz Roglič (LottoNL-Jumbo) and ahead of Richie Porte (BMC) with a blistering performance for one so young that also saw him net a stage win.

Team-mate Luke Rowe described Bernal, who joined Sky this year, as a “superstar” after Romandie, and it’s not hard to see why.
