Scott Bain reflects on a whirlwind 12 months at the Scottish champions

LAST season, Scott Bain played a part at not one but three SPFL teams, having been involved at Dundee, Hibernian and, of course, Celtic to varying degrees. More impressive still, his engagement with all three clubs occurred over the course of four weeks.

Signed to Dundee until New Year’s Day 2018, Bain was loaned out to Hibernian before eventually signing a six-month loan deal at Paradise on deadline day – just hours before the transfer window closed on January 31.

Scottish Football Association rules state players can only play for two clubs per season, which means that, had Bain come off the bench for the Easter Road side at any time during his short stint in the capital, he would have ruled himself out of contention at Celtic.

As fate would have it, it was against Hibs at Celtic Park on the January 27, 2018 that Hoops goalkeeper Craig Gordon sustained a knee injury which ultimately paved the way for Bain’s move to Glasgow. Stranger still, Bain was in the dugout that day for the Edinburgh side.

Fast forward 12 months, and the 27-year-old stopper is now celebrates a successful year under Brendan Rodgers, and he considers his first-team debut, when a 10-man Celtic overcame city rivals Rangers 3-2 at Ibrox – and this season’s successful League Cup run which saw him lift the trophy at Hampden in December, as stand-out highlights.

“I was lucky in many ways, because when I went to Hibs I actually didn’t play at all,” said Bain in an exclusive interview with the Celtic View. “I think there were three games, and one of those was Dundee, which meant I couldn’t play, and you’re obviously only allowed to play for two teams in one year.
