AFTER a dominant 6-0 win against Icelandic champions, KR Reykjavik, Celtic must now overcome the champions of Hungary, Ferencvaros, if they are to continue on their path to the group stages of the UEFA Champions League.
As was the case with the previous tie, this round will also be a one-match contest, and Celtic will be hoping the home advantage will help them outscore Ferencvaros by the time the referee blows for full-time.
The Hoops have scored 11 goals in their last two games at Paradise, and if they can continue on that fine vein of form, the Hungarian side could be in for a difficult night.
IN THE BEGINNING
Ferencvaros were founded on May 3, 1899, with the football team being part of a wider club that also included athletics, cycling, gymnastics, and swimming. The city of Budapest is split into 23 districts and the club was founded by a group of local residents in the ninth district, including a lawyer, Ferenc Springer, who was nominated as the first chairman of the club. Green and white were chosen as the club colours and the motto ‘Morality, Strength, Consensus’ was adopted.
