Tommy Johnson was only too happy to talk about his Celtic adventures on one of his many visits back to Paradise

TOMMY Johnson is always a welcome visitor to Celtic Park, whether he is up to watch the Hoops or take part in one of the many charity matches played here over the years.

It’s no wonder the likeable Geordie is always greeted with open arms in Paradise, as he played for the club in a period that contained two of the most memorable chapters in its history – stopping the 10 and the 2000/01 treble under Martin O’Neill.

Joining from Aston Villa in 1997, Johnson scored 25 goals in 52 games as well as spending a period on loan at Everton before leaving for Sheffield Wednesday in 2001.

Here we revisit am Interview from the Celtic View of April 29, 2009 when the striker was making another trip back to Paradise.

TOMMY BURNS’ last signing, Tommy Johnson joined Celtic during a period of real uncertainty at the club. Hampered by injury in his early years, the likeable Geordie got the breaks he deserved later in his Celtic career.

After scoring in the 2000 League Cup final against Aberdeen, Tommy was an integral part of Martin O’Neill’s treble-winning side of 2000/01. He also had the distinction of scoring the goal that won the title that season.

Still a regular visitor to Celtic Park, Tommy – now a coach at first club Notts County – popped into Paradise last week and was happy to spare a few minutes to tell his Bhoy’s Own Story.
