TIMOTHY Weah was the decisive factor in helping Celtic to a 2-0 win against St Johnstone in Perth.

The American came off the bench in the second half to provide an assist for James Forrest before scoring himself as Celtic maintained their six-point lead at the top of the table.

Scott Bain made an important save to deny Matty Kennedy from close-range. The Saints forward linked-up with Murray Davidson inside the box and squeezed off a shot, but Bain made an instinctive save with his foot.

After the initial flurry from the home side, Celtic settled into their rhythm and began picking holes on the Saints backline. Oliver Burke came close to giving Celtic the lead when he readied a shot inside the box but Jason Kerr blocked it with a last-ditch sliding tackle.

Burke nearly crafted a goal from nothing when he muscled his way down the left flank, cut inside and stabbed the ball beyond Zander Clark. The angle was too tight, however, and the ball rolled across the goal-line before Richard Foster cleared it.

New Bhoy, Jeremy Toljan made his debut at the start of the second half when he came on in place of Mikael Lustig. The German full-back slotted into the game well and helped out in attack, setting up Burke for a chance, though Clarke saved well.

Clark was instrumental in keeping the score goal-less with some great stops, including a point-blank save to deny Jozo Simunovic, after he had glided through the Saints defence.
