SIMON Donnelly is no stranger to pressure, having played a key role in the Celtic side which created history 22 years ago. Given the dominance of the Hoops’ city rivals ahead of the 1997/98 trail, the stakes couldn’t have been higher for Wim Jansen’s men during a campaign which was ultimately decided on its final day.
But, alongside the likes of then club captain Tom Boyd, Champions League-winner Paul Lambert and a young, dreadlocked Henrik Larsson, Donnelly and his peers stepped up and delivered one of the most important league championships in the club’s illustrious history.
If Neil Lennon’s squad clinch top prize in the 2020/21 title race, they’ll once more write themselves into Scottish football history, and Donnelly has every confidence they have what it takes – to handle the pressure, to mirror the form they’ve shown in recent years, and to, crucially, win more silverware in the weeks and months ahead.
Here, the Celtic View, caught up with the former forward to chat about his view of the season so far from the perspective of Celtic fan, an ex-player and current pundit.
