Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma smashed a host of records in the ICC Cricket World Cup as his side tamed Afghanistan in match number 9 on Wednesday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Afghanistan had their share of records while batting as skipper
Hashmatullah Shahidi led the way with a superb 80. The Afghans posted 272/8 in 50 overs. In response, Indian openers Rohit and Ishan Kishan were in a hurry and toyed with the Afghans, closing the game down 35 overs. Rohit scored a ferocious century, becoming the highest centurion in World Cup history. Kishan, too, played his part as the duo added 156 runs. Rohit dealt with boundaries, and it was poetry for the fans. He scored a solid 131, slamming 16 fours and five sixes. Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer played their part as India won convincingly by eight wickets.

MOST CENTURIES IN THE ICC WORLD CUP Rohit smashed his 7th ICC World Cup century. Playing his third World Cup, Rohit hit one in the 2015 edition and five more in 2019. With his count of seven, he has gone past the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who owns six WC tons. Ricky Ponting and Kumar Sangakkara have five tons each.
JOINT-FASTEST TO 1000 WORLD CUP RUNS
Rohit became the joint-fastest to 1000 runs in World Cup history. He joined David Warner to the feat with 19 innings each. Rohit and earlier Warner broke Sachin Tendulkar and AB de Villiers’ record for the fastest to 1000 WC runs (20 innings each).
