Umpires are the heartbeat of any cricket game and they have helped cricket retain its tag of gentlemen’s game. However, we have seen on numerous instances in the past- especially in the Pre-DRS era- that one misjudgment on their part has led to potentially change the game on its head.
Who can forget that infamous Sydney Test between Australia and India in 2008 where the duo of Mark Benson and Steve Bucknor had made a plethora of howlers, paying the way for the game to change on its head? Or the no-ball that wasn’t called by umpire S Ravi during the MI-RCB IPL fixture in 2018?
Umpiring mistakes have been associated with the sport in both pre and post DRS era. However, there have been a lot of umpires who are always remembered for their integrity and professionalism. One such gentleman in the elite panel of ICC umpires is the Pakistan official Aleem Dar.
