India may have gone down in the Johannesburg Test to South Africa, but one man again came out of the game with his reputation enhanced. Pace bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur registered career-best Test figures of 7 for 61, also the best by an Indian against South Africa in Tests – quite a big achievement. Not only with the ball, but Thakur also chipped in with the bat, playing a crucial cameo in the second innings, when India needed runs after losing some quick wickets. It was a performance that deserved to end up on the winning side. However, the visitors faltered rather jarringly in other aspects and conceded the Test.
