Ben Morgan has one of those days at Ludlow.
A 2,160-1 six timer is not a bad way to start a month, but it would have been even better if I could have backed six out of seven winners at my local track Ludlow.
I managed to sneak half a day off my “proper job” and headed down to the track and with many a good friend and relative in attendance – and the main aim was not to lose face in front of them.
It seemed that the majority of south Shropshire was also there which made for a good atmosphere and it wasn’t long before I was celebrating as Peruvien Bleu for Nick Williams’ capitalised on a last flight blunder from hot favourite, Excellent Team, to take the first at odds of 2/1. This eased some of pressure going into the day, as many people were asking for tips and Peruvien Bleu was one of five horses I told people to look out for.
The second race was won by According To Harry (2/1) who survived a late blunder to win under champion jockey Richard Johnson, which made me two from two and secured the first leg of a Round Robin I struck at the course.
Dan Skelton’s Rene’s Girl (2/1) looked set to give a bold showing on her preferred decent ground in the third. She pinged her way round at the back before moving to the front as they straightened towards home. She continued to cruise up the straight to a 9 lengths victory. The Round Robin was two from two and I was three from three.
