Richard Dore discovers a Premier League club that has refused to stand still as they bid to defend their title next summer
Having won the Birmingham & District Premier League indominant fashion last season, what is the worst possible news that Knowle & Dorridge’s opponents could have received in the off-season?
Quite high on that list would be that Knowle & Dorridge have signed five-time Ashes-winner Ian Bell as their Warwickshire player for 2018, while also featuring would be the re-signing of the record run-scorer in the league’s 130-year history.
That man is George Worker, the New Zealander who smashed his way to an astonishing 1,645 runs last term, tormenting the bowling attacks of the world’s oldest cricket league.
The signing of Bell will, of course, attract the headlines but both players will be important, and we caught up with Knowle & Dorridge skipper Sam Reddish to find out more about the club.
“I want to create another spot in my side where I can place a youngster, which is part of the reason we’ve signed Ian Bell, it’s brilliant news for us,” said Reddish.
“It’s great for the club, a great advertisement and puts the club on the map, but to be realistic Ian’s not going to play that many games for us.
