ALEX Hales came within a whisker of equalling Chris Gayle’s record for the fastest ever T20 century as he helped Nottinghamshire cruise past Durham at Trent Bridge in the T20 Blast.

Hales smashed 95 off 30 balls – the same number Gayle had required for his world record effort back in 2013 in the IPL – with the Notts opener hammering nine sixes and as many fours in a five-wicket success.
Riki Wessels also made 41 as Notts chased down the score of 183-7 that Durham had set earlier. A collapse late in the day did not stop the Outlaws claiming victory with 37 balls remaining.
Hales said: “I knew there was a chance to go for the quickest T20 century of all-time and you don’t get those opportunities very often.
