DOMINIC Cork is hoping that his years of experience behind the microphone can help Derbyshire become the big noise in domestic T20 cricket this season.
The former England allrounder was appointed as Derbyshire’s new T20 coach earlier this week, with the 47year-old taking over the role from John Wright.
Cork has spent two seasons working alongside the Kiwi as Derbyshire’s bowling coach in the sport’s shortest format but has now been handed the reins for this summer’s competition.
It’s Cork’s first head coach appointment since he called time on his playing career back in 2011, although it was far from the first offer that has come his way.
And he tells The Cricket Paper that taking his time and considering his options has allowed him the opportunity to see at first hand the kind of innovations that could help revitalize Derbyshire’s T20 fortunes.
“In some ways, it has been a nice progression working under John and being back at a club where I went from being a young YTS boy to playing for England,” he says.
“It has been a good couple of years and I’m hoping that things go well this year. But it’s not about me as a coach, it’s about the side doing well and getting through to the Holy Grail – which is a first Finals Day.
