Giants to honor champs at home opener.
No matter the result of the New York Giants’ Monday Night Football tilt with the Detroit Lions on September 18th, there will be a victorious Giants squad on the MetLife Stadium field for Big Blue’s 2017 home opener.
Giants President/CEO/Owner John Mara announced that the 2007-08 Giants team, winners of the franchise’s third Super Bowl in what some call the greatest upset in football history, will be honored during the Giants’ Monday night matchup in Week Two. Mara made the announcement during a fan forum for season ticket holders, alongside center Shaun O’Hara and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. Former wide receiver and Giant great Amani Toomer later joined in on the discussion, while WFAN Giants’ play-by-play announcer Bob Papa moderated.
“September 18, we’re celebrating the 10th anniversary of our 2007 team. So we’re having all the players back that weekend,” Mara said, drawing applause from the crowd. “It’s pretty cool. We have a lot of great events planned for them. We’re really looking forward to it. It’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years. It’s going to be a great event for us.”
Mara expressed excitement for the reunion, remarking he’s looking to have as many players from the team return as possible. Two players, Super Bowl MVP/quarterback Eli Manning and long snapper Zak DeOssie, will suit up for the Giants that night.
