Jenkins suspended

Cornerback Janoris Jenkins became the third Giants cornerback punished with lost playing time this season, as the second-year Giant missed the Giants’ post-bye showdown against the Los Angeles Rams when he was suspended indefinitely.

Jenkins, along with fellow cornerback Eli Apple and running back Paul Perkins, was excused from practice for “personal reasons” according to head coach Ben McAdoo on October 30. The next day, however, the Giants released a statement announcing Jenkins’ suspension, with McAdoo stating he did not speak to Jenkins until the morning of October 31.

“Until I had all the information, I was going to err on the high side of trusting the player, protecting the player,” explained McAdoo. “We like to handle all of our discipline in-house as much as possible and I felt that in (this case) it wasn’t possible.”

A first-time Pro Bowler last season, Jenkins was suspended for a violation of team rules, said to be late returning from the bye week. He has tallied 20 tackles and one interception in six games this season. Jenkins signed a five-year, $62.5 million contract with the Giants last season after spending his first four years with the Rams.
