Down, But Definitely Not Out

Yes, the injury-filled loss to the Los Angeles Chargers gave a whole new meaning to the mantra, “Next man up!” The game was an epic meltdown in attrition and bad play. By the last drive, the Giants had so many new guys playing different positions, it looked like a string of sneaky Bill Belichick trick plays.

In a cruel succession of injuries, the Giants lost four receivers including star Odell Beckham but still had a chance with less than four minutes to play.

New York had three tight ends on the field as they lined up for one last drive. Thing was, two of them were playing wide receiver. The game ended with an Eli Manning interception, in which the somber QB sighed, “At the end of the game, when you see your best player in pain, it can be a tough situation.”

Now with receivers Beckham, Brandon Marshall, and Dwayne Harris all lost for the season, along with Sterling Shepard out for likely a few weeks, what calamity is next for these hapless Giants … besides more losing?

“Yeah, I’m frustrated with losing,” sputtered Manning, knowing the quote could apply to all of Big Blue Nation.

Well, for starters the team still has Roger Lewis. They also signed Travis Rudolph and Ed Eagan to the active roster, added Tavarres King, and signed Darius Powe to fill the practice squad vacancy.
