For one glorious afternoon in the swamps of Jersey, the New York football Giants gave their loyal season ticket holders something to cheer about, even if most of those fans were disguised as gray, empty seats.
The last point spread I saw before this contest began, not that I venture in the world of sports betting, was 11.5. I’ll let you guess which team was favored to win the game.
There has been so much controversy surrounding Mara Tech this year that this 12-9 overtime victory truly came out of nowhere. The Giants defense, the culprit in so many of the team’s heartbreaking as well as embarrassing losses, came up huge against a high-powered Chiefs attack. Not only are they high powered, but Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith just does not turn the ball over. Smith came into the game with an incredible 18-to-1 touchdown to interception ratio. So naturally, he finished the contest with no touchdowns and two picks. For good measure, the Giants defense even intercepted tight end Travis Kelce on a tight end option pass straight out of the Andy Reid playbook of trickery.
