When the wide receivers break into their individual group during training camp practices, you can’t help but notice one particular player who stands out from the rest.
His name is Kenny Golladay.
Golladay glides with ease when running routes and at times seems like he’s not even moving. But when he leaves his feet to snare a Daniel Jones pass, the 6-foot4 prized free-agent signing is head and shoulders above everyone else.
“You don’t realize how big Golladay is until you stand next to him,” said Adoree’ Jackson. “He’s a tough matchup for any corner. I don’t care who you are out there, Kenny will win most one-on-one matchups.”
That’s the plan.
The Giants haven’t had a wide receiver with Golla day’s size since Plaxico Burress, and if Golladay can do for Jones what Burress did for Eli Manning, then the offense just got a whole lot better.
Golladay is big and strong enough to make contested catches, especially in the red zone, which is why Dave Gettleman made him a priority in free agency and handed Golladay a four-year contract worth $72 million ($40 million guaranteed).
During the first week of camp, Golladay and Jones worked on getting their timing down, even staying after practice each day to work on certain routes. It’s a tedious, but necessary process that must be done to ensure the proper connection between the two when the regular season begins.
