Catching Up With Our Dutch Goal Keeper Michel Vorm, Who’s Content With Life on and Off The Pitch to Such an Extent That He Recently Became the Latest Member of the Squad to Commit His Future to the Club.

Michel Vorm admits he is loving life at Spurs... and that made it a straight-forward decision to put pen to paper on a new deal just a matter of weeks ago.

The 33-year-old goalkeeper joined us from Premier League rivals Swansea City in the summer of 2014 and, in the two-and-a-half years since, has proved to be a valuable member of the squad both on and off the pitch.

Playing 26 times in our colours, Michel has ably stepped in for Hugo Lloris whenever the club skipper hasn’t featured and, crucially, has maintained both his and Hugo’s sharpness in training every day.

It’s been the cup competitions in which the Dutch international has featured most for us, playing 18 knockout matches – most notably starting five times during our run to the League Cup Final in 2015 – and he’ll be hoping to add to his tally this afternoon for the visit of Aston Villa in our third round FA Cup clash.

If anything, it’s his lack of game time which makes Michel such a consummate professional. Despite knowing he is most likely to be understudy to Lloris from week to week, the former Utrecht FC stopper always gives 100 per cent in training, is always mentally and physically ready to step up should he be needed and can always be seen with a smile on his face around Hotspur Way.

And all of these factors, together with a settled family life here in London, meant Michel had no hesitation in signing a new deal.

“It’s special to sign a new contract,” said Vorm, who has won 15 caps for the Netherlands. “When you come here you have expectations but you don’t really know what’s going to happen, although over the years I think I’ve done well on every level here and I think it’s very important for me to see how it is to be at a big club.
